  • This report was prepared in response to a decision by the National Food Industry Council that the Australian Government and industry should develop consistent environmental reporting guidelines for the agrifood sector.
  • The project has resulted in the development of a framework and guidelines for environmental reporting along food value chains, using pilot studies of the confectionary industry and the bread sector of the baking industry.
  • The framework adapts the Signposts for Australian Agriculture framework that was developed for the primary production sector so that it can be applied to any sector of the food value chain: primary production, storage, transport, and packaging and processing.
  • The report also includes a number of recommendations for further action by governments, industry organisations and individual businesses.
